About the project
Lead Artist Karina Jones is an actress, aerial performer and belly dancer. Karina has worked with Extraordinary Bodies on UK and International projects, including a residency in Australia with Circus Oz as well as performing as an aerialist in various productions including a solo piece at the Cerebral Palsy World Games Opening Ceremony. Karina also has an extensive theatre CV and most recently was the first ever visually impaired actress to take on the role of Susy in the national tour of Wait Until Dark with Original Theatre Company.
The located residency with National Theatre Wales was used to explore and develop a new production with the working title of Blind Drunk in Llandudno. Drawing from Karina’s real life experience of being a visually impaired woman in the 21st Century, this production will tell a unique, funny and moving story using a true authentic voice. It will be an extremely physical piece that combines aerial performance and movement to completely turn the perception of disabled people on its head. It will be fully accessible in an innovative and creative way and follows the story of Alice, a proudly bi-sexual disabled women creating a unique theatrical experience which challenges the way disabled people are portrayed in the arts.
