About the project
NTW TEAM spent two terms building on lessons learned through our successful collaboration with Ocean Park Academy in Cardiff last year, this time working with Pembrokeshire Learning Centre (PLC), a KS4 Pupil Referral Unit in Pembroke Dock. This project provided participants with an extraordinary creative experience. Using TEAM’s expertise, we gave learners the opportunity to create their own album of original music. The pupils at PLC live with a range of social, emotional and behavioural difficulties, all of this is reflected in the work they produced and in the raw talent unlocked by their participation in the project.
Over six months, TEAM curated a programme of creativity, learning and leadership with a focus on writing, composing and performing music, with many pupils never having had previous experience in this field. Pupils learned from and collaborated with professionals from the music industry, radio presenters, photographers and film-makers, creating an album, a radio-edit EP and accompanying music video. The finale was an album launch night with photographic and academic exhibition, curated and promoted by the pupils.
This project has proved life-changing for certain participants and hugely beneficial to all, developing an increase in confidence and self-esteem, a renewed interest in learning, academic improvement, increased attendance and even encouraging some to aspire to a career in the creative industries.
