NETWORK PLAY READINGS
Saturday 16 May, 7pm
By The Other Room
Writer Matthew Bulgo
Director Dan Jones
Place like this – you know this – place like this gets in your blood. Once it’s in your blood, you can’t get it out.
Cardiff’s celebrated pub theatre The Other Room returns to Constellation Street, one of its biggest hits to date and originally staged in 2016, for the next in the series of Network Play Readings presented by National Theatre Wales and Sherman Theatre. This reading of all four monologues offers you an opportunity to savour Matthew Bulgo’s honest and finely crafted writing.
One night under Cardiff skies, four lost souls go looking for answers. After dark, when the world is quiet, their paths weave and collide as they all go in search of salvation. When dawn breaks, life will go on but there will be another night to contend with soon enough. As the sun rises over the Taff, can anyone break free from the past?
Available in four separate instalments, these inter-connected monologues can be enjoyed in one sitting or individually to fit into your schedule. The instalments will initially be livestreamed over the course of the night of 16 May in real time and then available on demand. Audiences who saw Constellation Street on its original run will now have the opportunity to experience all four monologues together for the first time.
Unflinching, funny and humane – Constellation Street is somewhere you will want to spend time.
These are uncertain times for us all. The impact of Coronavirus is presenting devastating challenges for artists and theatre makers here in Wales. As a national company and as a collective of people, we are deeply aware of our role in supporting, enabling and nurturing the performance sector around us as well as offering the people of Wales the chance to connect to the stories that can unite us in shared experiences while we are kept apart.
We know this is a hard time for many of us, but if you are able to consider making a donation to help us continue our work, it would be hugely appreciated.
