News Story

Newid Diwylliant / Culture Change is designed to permanently create and replicate equity within the arts sector in Wales. Starting with its leadership.

We’ve joined forces with the eight national arts companies of Wales on a major initiative. Funded by the Welsh Government’s Culture, Heritage and Sport Wales Anti-racist Fund, Newid Diwylliant / Culture Change is a comprehensive programme aimed at transforming Wales' arts sector to make it truly representative of contemporary Wales.

To tell the stories of Wales and its many identities, we need to make sure that decision-making is representatively distributed across the breadth of its people. Through training and organisational development, Newid Diwylliant / Culture Change will challenge and permanently remove the many barriers to participation and working in the sector, creating rewarding career pathways and leadership opportunities which those from the global majority heritage feel safe and welcome in pursuing.

There are two major opportunities to guide and deliver this phase:

Critical Friends call out

To reflect the lived experience of the communities we want to attract and engage in our workforces and audiences, the programme of work will be co-designed with the Critical Friends Working Group – a paid group of people from the global majority.

Strands of work will include training for staff and freelancers (including anti-racism training); a review of the companies' working practices (particularly HR and recruitment); and opportunities to develop leaders from the global majority.

Let’s get cracking.
