Young Storytellers project

Sharing stories is at the heart of what we do at NTW. We invited young people aged 16-25 looking to develop their storytelling skills to create an audio portrait of someone in their community

Wait, what's an audio portrait?

Well, it's what we're naming a photographic portrait accompanied by an audio interview of that person.

So, how does this project work?

Inspired by themes of Circle of Fifths, we invited young storytellers from locations on the tour to interview a member of their community, exploring the power of music and memory.

These audio portraits were created during a one-day creative workshop with BAFTA Cymru-nominated documentary filmmaker Jay Bedwani and presenter, photographer and TEAM assistant Ellen Thomas.

Conversations ranged from revisiting the music that Heather danced to in the living room with her dad, to the catharsis of a break-up ballad that inspired Richard’s writing, to the lyrics that comforted Kirsty in loss.

Read or listen to these stories below, and meet the young storyteller behind each portrait.

You can also listen to the collective soundtrack of the Young Storytellers project.
